Sajeel Maharaj to take the reins at Citadel

Citadel has announced that its long-serving chief executive, Andrew Möller, will step down, with chief operations officer Sajeel Maharaj set to take over as CEO from 1 July 2026.

Maharaj, who joined Citadel in 2018, has a background in corporate finance, strategy and operations. He has played a key role in driving the firm’s growth strategy, refining its operating model, and enhancing its client offering.

Möller’s career at Citadel spans more than 30 years, including 13 years as CEO.

During this period, Citadel grew its assets under management to R390 billion and maintained a client retention rate of above 99%.

The company says the transition forms part of a planned succession process aimed at ensuring continuity for clients while positioning the business for its next phase of growth.
