One of the most beloved luxury watchmakers of all time comes from Japan, and its name is Seiko. Whether you’re looking for an everyday piece for the office or a robust dive watch, Seiko has you covered. That’s probably why my first serious watch purchase was a Seiko. I wanted something that could do a little bit of everything and look great doing it. After exhaustive research, I kept ending up at Seiko as the best option. To that point, I’ve found a Seiko deal at Amazon that I think could make a great first piece for other watch collecting noobs, and it’s quite a looker.

Why do shoppers love it?
I don’t know the last time I saw such a versatile everyday Seiko model for such a low price. With a diameter of 37 millimeters, it’s a great midsized option. Gone are the days of bulky garish watches that look like dinner plates on the wrist. That was a popular style in the 2010s, and it’s a trend that is not missed by watch nerds like me. This size is big enough to still look sporty, but small enough to be right at home under the cuff of a sportcoat. The 316L stainless steel case and bracelet make for a subtle yet robust look for this piece. It’s also corrosion resistant and rustproof, adding to the value of the material. My everyday wear watches are almost exclusively stainless steel for this reason.
The dial is a deep black color with 12, 6, and 9 Arabic numerals that increase legibility. The watch also includes a day date function, with multi-language options. There is also a luminescent coating on the handset as well as the hour markers, meaning that you’ll be able to tell the time even in low-light conditions. A refined push-button clasp keeps the watch snugly in place, no matter your activity level. This is my favorite clasp style due to the combination of comfort and security. The watch also has 30 meters of water resistance, so activities like washing dishes or playing tennis in a drizzle are absolutely doable with this timepiece.
The beating heart of the watch is the Japanese Seiko automatic movement. As a self-winding power source, the movement gathers its energy from the movement of your wrist. That means it never needs a battery change, and as long as you keep moving, it does too. It includes a power reserve of 40 hours. That means you can place it on your nightstand when you go to sleep, and it will still be ticking when you wake up. One of my favorite things about automatic movement watches like this one is the clear caseback that allows you to see the inner workings of the watch throughout the day, including the 21 rubies that are placed throughout.
